Too often we designers sit in the center of the user space, focus ahead, and think we see all that needs to be done, what needs to happen. Usability isn't only about what we observe. It's about what is inside the mind of the user. And it's not only about the tools they use. It's about anything that's within arms reach, anything that may enter the workspace: visually, audibly, or spatially. |

I know what I know....and I'm not always right. I need to know what the users know and enlist their help in unlearning what I thought I knew. |

The users have a vision based on experience. My first job is that of counselor: learning about their pain points, their frustrations, and their vision of how the future can be better. |
